The marriage certificates are issued
separately for each spouse from their Municipality of residence.
During the wedding ceremony, the
soon-to-be-wed must have their identity cards or passport as well as two
adult witnesses (who could also be related to them) with their identity
cards.

Residents of the Municipality
of Vathi - Greek Nationals::
1. Application (application forms
can be obtained from the City Hall).
2. Birth Certificate.
3. A declaration form of law 1599/86
stating that:

The soon to be wed has no impediment
to the marriage according to articles 1350, 1351, 1352, 1354, 1356, 1357,
1360 of the Civil Law.

The soon to be wed is being wed for
the first or second time etc.

The soon to be wed is resident at the
Municipality of Vathi (the signature on the declaration form must be authenticated).
4. Marriage Certificate along with divorce
papers or death certificate, in the case of previous marriage.
5. Public notice of the wedding
in a daily local newspaper.
6. A stamp voucher of 15
from the Public Finance Office.
Residents of the Municipality
of Vathi - Foreign Nationals:
1. Application (Application forms
can be obtained from the Local Authority Offices).
2. A permit of residence in Greece
(without a permit of residence in Greece, a marriage license cannot be
issued for a civil wedding, according to article 31, L. 1975/91).
3. Birth certificate (certified
translation to Greek).
4. Certificate from the Consulate
of their country of origin in Greece that they have no impediment to the
marriage (certified translation to Greek).
5. A stamp voucher of 15
from the Public Finance Office.
Foreign Nationals resident abroad:
In this case, the marriage licences
are issued by the relevant Authorities of their country of residence and
must be translated and certified by the Greek Consulate of their country
or by the Translation Service of the Foreign Office in Athens.
Greek Nationals resident abroad:
In this case, the marriage licences
are issued by the Greek Embassies or Consulates of their country of residence.
What are the supporting
documents required for first time registration to the Municipal Roll (unregistered
persons)?
-
Birth certificate and if not available
due to a justified cause (e.g. destruction of the records), the transcript
of negative response from the Registry Office of the place of birth as
well as any other supporting document (christening record, school certificate)
that proves the age of the said man or woman.

Proof of enrolment to the Male
Register and/or the Municipal Rolls. Certificate of marital status of parents
with
full
details. If no such certificate is available, then the marriage
certificate of the parents, proof of enrolment of the father to the Male
Register and the Municipal Roll with
full details and proof of enrolment of the mother to the Municipal
Roll with full details is required (in the case where they are not citizens
of the Municipality of Vathi).

Solemn declaration (the form can be
obtained from the relevant department) stating that the said person is
not registered in the Municipal Roll of any local authority in the country.

Declaration form of article 8, Law 1599/86
stating that the said person is not married. If married, the marriage certificate
is required along with his or her birth certificate as well as that of
the spouse.

What are the
documents required to amend the place of birth, religious denomination
or other Registry record details?
a. An appropriately adapted certificate,
issued by the mayor or reeve, regarding the enrolment to the male registers
and/or the municipal rolls of the person that has erroneous records.
b. Relevant excerpt of birth certificate
pointing to the amendment in the record. In those cases where a birth certificate
is not available, the following apply (as above):
-
Certificate by the minister, from the
christening archives of the Church, stating the name given at christening,
or similarly by the religious functionary, from the kept books of births
of a mosque or synagogue stating the name given at the time of birth or
circumcision.

Solemn declaration of each individual
that acts as a guardian or god-parent as to the given name, or in absence
of the declaration, a personal statement of the said person as stipulated
by Law 1599/1986.
What are the
supporting documents required to change family name?
The supporting documents specified
in the decree 78810/18.12.1984 (FEK 14/14.1.85 vol. b') issued by the Under-secretary
of the Home Office according to Law 2573/1953, "on changing and assuming
family name, father's name or mother's name".
Assuming family name, father's name
or mother's name:
For the special cases specified
in the above decree no 78810/18.12.1984 of the Under-Secretary of the Home
Office:
a. Application of the interested
party or, in the case of a minor, of any individual that acts as a guardian.
b. Relevant excerpt of the birth
certificate of the said person.
c. Certificate issued by the mayor
or reeve, regarding the existence of the said person in the male register
and/or the municipal roll.
Change of records due to acknowledgement
of an out of wedlock child:
a. Application of the acknowledged
person or, if the said person is underage, of the guardian.
b. Authenticated copy of the deed
or will in the case of wilful acknowledgement, or the decree of acknowledgement
in the case of a judicial decision.
c. Relevant excerpt of the amended
birth certificate.
d. Certificate issued by the mayor
or reeve of the local authority, regarding the enrolment of both the acknowledged
and the acknowledging person.
Change of records due to adoption:
a. Application by the adopted or,
in the case of a minor, the adopting parent or one of the spouses (in the
case of joint adoption by both spouses or adoption of the other's child
by one of the spouses).
b. Authenticated copy of the decree
of adoption (Articles A.K. 1569, 1576, 1577, 1579, 1580, 1581, 1582, 1583
and 1584).
c. Relevant excerpt of the amended
birth certificate.
d. Certificate issued by the mayor
or reeve of the local authority, regarding the existence of both the adopting
parent and the adopted person in the male registers and/or the municipal
roll.

All the certificates from mayors or
reeves required by the said document must be signed by the said mayors
or reeves and under-signed by the officer of the male register and/or the
municipal roll in the case of municipalities or by the secretary in the
case of communities. For the certificate of absence of birth certificate
in particular, it must also be under-signed by the Police Commander of
the local Police Station.. For any other special cases, similar to the
above supporting documents are required, adapted to each particular case
or supplemented with other documents that prove the desired modification
upon the discretion of the prefects.

In all applications submitted according
to the said decree for a modification in the male register and/or the municipal
roll, the full identity details must be recorded, as well as the current
address (town, street, number) and date of submission. In those cases (enrolment
of unregistered persons, addition or modification of records in the male
registers and/or the municipal rolls) where a copy or excerpt of birth
certificate is required where no birth certificate is available or it has
been destroyed, a certificate by the local registrar must be submitted,
stating this fact (that no birth certificate is available or that it has
been destroyed). Also, in absence of the relevant record in the "christening"
or "birth" records, a certificate by the religious functionary must be
submitted stating this fact (that there is no relevant record).

The certificates, application forms
and supporting documents required for the following modifications in the
male register and/or the municipal roll are not subject to Public stamp
duty.

Am I obliged
to enrol in the Male register?
All male Greek nationals residing
either in the country or abroad are obliged to enrol in the male register
of the their municipality or community.
Minors are enrolled in the male
register of the municipality or the community that corresponds to the municipal
roll they are registered in or are obliged to register according to the
decrees regulating the enrolment to the municipal rolls. Adults can enrol
in the male registry of the municipality or community of their choice.
What is required
for the registration of foreign nationals following their naturalisation
or re-naturalisation?
Naturalised foreign nationals, Greek
or other, are registered in the male register and/or the municipal rolls
of their municipality or community of residence at the time of naturalisation,
subject to the approval by the relevant prefect.
What is required
to transfer my records to another municipal roll?
1. The person seeking transfer of
municipal records can enrol in the male register and/or the municipal rolls
of the municipality or community where they wish to register, whilst at
the same time their records are removed from the previous male register
and/or municipal roll.
2. For the transfer of the records,
an application is required by the interested party or, in the case of a
minor, by the parents or guardian. The application must be submitted at
the conscription office of the district where the municipality or community
that holds the previous male register and/or municipal rolls belongs in.

What are the
supporting documents required to register a birth?
Medical Birth Certificate · Identity
cards of the parents · Act of designation of family name to the child,
and in particular for the birth rank. A 10-day period is allowed for the
registration. In the case of exceeding this deadline by up to 90 days there
is an administrative charge of 1500 drs payable in duty stamps. Beyond
90 days the fine is 4500 drs.
What are the

90 days there is an administrative charge of 1500 drs payable in duty stamps
and after the expiry of 90 days the charge becomes 4500 drs.
What are the
supporting documents required to obtain a license to establish and run
a shop?
The department of shop licenses issues
the licences for establishing and running a shop within the limits of the
Municipality of Vathi, catalogues the applications and oversees the process
of their issuance and where appropriate it proceeds to revoke the license.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
For the foundation of an establishment
in the Municipality of Vathi, notification of the Local Authority is required
regarding the type of establishment by completing the application form
for a shop pre-test.
Subsequently, and upon approval
of the shop foundation by the Local Authority, you will be notified so
as to proceed with compiling a portfolio.
Once the application form is completed
you must register it at the Archives of the Municipality of Vathi and then
